Utility Stitches ■ Sewing overcasting stitches using the side cutter (sold separately with some models) Using the side cutter, seam allowances can be finished while the edge of the fabric is cut off. Five utility stitches can be used to sew overcasting stitches with the side cutter. Note • Thread the needle manually when using the side cutter, or only attach the side cutter after threading the needle using the needle threader. Side cutter CAUTION • When using the side cutter, sew between low and medium speed and do not touch the knives or connecting fork of the side cutter while sewing to avoid equipment damage or injury. a b c 1 Connecting fork 2 Upper knife 3 Guide plate (lower knife) Remove the presser foot. (page 29) a Hook the connecting fork of the side cutter onto the b needle clamp screw. a Position the side cutter so that side cutter pin is aligned c with the notch in the presser foot holder, and then slowly lower the presser foot lever. 1 Notch in presser foot holder 2 Pin b a Note • When it is hard to set under the presser foot holder, fit the pin on the side cutter into the notch of the presser foot holder raising up the presser foot lever higher. Raise the presser foot lever to check that the side d cutter is securely attached.
