Related Commands • show ip bgp summary - display the current BGP configuration. neighbor next-hop-self Allows you to configure the router as the next hop for a BGP neighbor. Syntax neighbor {ip-address | peer-group-name} next-hop-self [all] To return to the default setting, use the no neighbor {ip-address | peer-group-name} nexthop-self [all] command. Parameters ip-address peer-group-name all Enter the IP address of the neighbor in dotted decimal format. Enter the name of the peer group. Usage Information If you configure the set next-hop command in ROUTE-MAP mode, the configuration takes precedence over the neighbor next-hop-self command. If you do not use the all keyword, the next hop of only eBGP-learned routes is updated by the route reflector. If you use the all keyword, the next hop of both eBGP- and iBGP-learned routes are updated by the route reflector. neighbor password Enable message digest 5 (MD5) authentication on the TCP connection between two neighbors. Syntax neighbor {ip-address | peer-group-name} password [encryption-type] password To delete a password, use the no neighbor {ip-address | peer-group-name} password command. Parameters ip-address peer-group-name encryption-type password Enter the IP address of the router to be included in the peer group. Enter the name of a configured peer group. (OPTIONAL) Enter 7 as the encryption type for the password entered. 7 means that the password is encrypted and hidden. Enter a text string up to 80 characters long. The first character of the password must be a letter. You cannot use spaces in the password. Border Gateway Protocol 377

Syntax

Parameters

ip-address

Enter the IP address of the neighbor in dotted decimal format.

peer-group-name

Enter the name of the peer group.

all

Specifies that the route reflector is the next hop for both iBGP and eBGP-learned routes.

Usage Information

If you configure the

set next-hop

command in ROUTE-MAP mode, the configuration takes precedence over

the

neighbor next-hop-self

command.

If you do not use the

all

keyword, the next hop of only eBGP-learned routes is updated by the route reflector. If

you use the

all

keyword, the next hop of both eBGP- and iBGP-learned routes are updated by the route

reflector.

neighbor password

Enable message digest 5 (MD5) authentication on the TCP connection between two neighbors.

Syntax

neighbor {

encryption-type

] password

To delete a password, use the

no neighbor {

ip-address

peer-group-name

} password

command.

Parameters

ip-address

Enter the IP address of the router to be included in the peer group.

peer-group-name

Enter the name of a configured peer group.

encryption-type

(OPTIONAL) Enter

as the encryption type for the password entered.

means that the

password is encrypted and hidden.

password

Enter a text string up to 80 characters long. The first character of the password must be

a letter.

You cannot use spaces in the password.
