Processor NOTE: The processor spare part kit includes replacement thermal material. Replacement thermal material is also available in the Thermal Material Kit, spare part number 669929-001. Description Spare part number Intel Core i7-2640M 2.80-GHz processor (SC turbo up to 3.40-GHz), 4.0-MB L3 cache, 1333-MHz 666173-001 FSB, dual core, 35 W) Intel Core i5-2540M 2.60-GHz processor (SC turbo up to 3.30-GHz), 3.0-MB L3 cache, 1333-MHz 631255-001 FSB, dual core, 35 W) Intel Core i5-2520M 2.50-GHz processor (SC turbo up to 3.20-GHz), 3.0-MB L3 cache, 1333-MHz 631253-001 FSB, dual core, 35 W) Intel Core i5-2430M 2.40-GHz processor (SC turbo up to 3.00-GHz), 3.0-MB L3 cache, 1333-MHz 653341-001 FSB, dual core, 35 W) Intel Core i3-2350M TJ85 2.30-GHz processor (3.0-MB L3 cache, 1333-MHz FSB, dual core, 35 W) 653340-001 Before removing the processor, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 39), and then remove the following components: a. Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 46) b. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 48) c. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 57) d. Top cover (see Top cover on page 60) e. System board (see System board on page 76) f. Fan/heat assembly (see Fan/heat sink assembly on page 79) Remove the processor: 1. Turn the processor locking screw (1) one-half turn counterclockwise, until you hear a click. 82 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures
