External Device Connections Linking to an Infrared Device (Select Models) Some notebook models are IrDA-compliant and can communicate with another infrared-equipped device that is also IrDA-compliant. The IrDA connection speed standard is 4 megabits per second (Mbps). The infrared port supports low-speed connections up to 115 kilobits per second (Kbps) as well as high-speed connections up to 4 Mbps. Infrared performance might vary according to: ■ Performance of the infrared peripheral ■ Distance and angle between infrared devices ■ Software applications being used ■ Interference or obstruction between devices ✎ Infrared signals are sent through an invisible beam of infrared light and must have an unobstructed line of sight.
