These settings are stored in the Tivoli Storage Manager database and persist across server restarts. You specify the server settings via the administrative interface. You can display the current server settings via the query status command. The default values for the server settings are generally acceptable. There are a few settings for which we recommend values other than the defaults. The settings are changed via the set command and fall into the following categories: Security-related settings Our recommended settings Security-related settings Table 3-2 shows the various default security-related settings for the server. We recommend that you select values for these settings that reflect the security policy at your site. Table 3-2 Security-related settings Setting and value Description AUTHENTICATION ON Whether administrators and client nodes must use a password to access the server INVALIDPWLIMIT 0 Maximum number of failed logon attempts before a node or administrator is locked MINPWLENGTH 0 Minimum length of a password PASSEXP 90 Password expiration period For example, consider the security policy at a company that specifies that all passwords must be changed every 90 days and must be a minimum of six characters in length.
