A 3-way pull backup is when one machine or partition initiates the client backup, another machine or partition stores the backup data, and a third machine is the backup client. Figure 20-3 illustrates the flow of a 3-way pull backup. 3-way Pull Backup The Initiator (server) initiates the backup on the Backup System (client),and then the Backup System sends its backup data to the Data Destination (server) system. This enables database users to have minimal downtime, because it is only required to halt the database while the mirrors are being split.
