as a boot device. Boot devices are defined in priority order. If the CD-ROM is selected as the boot device, it must be the first device. The network can be selected as a boot device. This selection allows booting from a network add-in card with a remote boot ROM installed. OEM Logo or Scan Area A 4 KB flash-memory user area at memory location FFFF8000h-FFFF8FFFh is for displaying a custom OEM logo during POST. USB Support The USB connectors allow any of several USB devices to be attached to the computer. Typically, the device driver for USB devices is managed by the operating system. However, because keyboard and mouse support may be needed in the Setup program before the operating system boots, the BIOS supports USB keyboards and mice. BIOS Setup Access Access to the Setup program can be restricted using passwords. User and supervisor passwords can be set using the Security menu in Setup. The default is no passwords enabled. Recovering BIOS Data Some types of failure can destroy the BIOS. For example, the data can be lost if a power outage occurs while the BIOS is being updated in flash memory. The BIOS can be recovered from a diskette with recovery files using the BIOS recovery mode. D865GLC Motherboard Manual 57
