BASIC OPERATION ■ Enjoying 2-channel sources using the standard decoders Signals input from 2-channel sources can also be played back on multi-channels. Press 5AMP and then press QSUR. DECODE repeatedly to select a decoder. You can select from the following decoders depending on the type of source you are playing and your personal preference. Neural Surround processing for any sources Sound field programs ■ Using sound field programs without surround speakers (Virtual CINEMA DSP) Virtual CINEMA DSP allows you to enjoy the CINEMA DSP programs without surround speakers by creating virtual speakers. If you set "SUR. L/R SP" to "NONE" (see page 66), Virtual CINEMA DSP is automatically activated whenever you select a CINEMA DSP program (see page 40). Note Virtual CINEMA DSP will not be activated even when "SUR. L/ R SP" is set to "NONE" (see page 66) in the following cases: - when "7ch Stereo" (see page 40) is selected. - when headphones are connected to the PHONES jack. ■ Enjoying multi-channel sources and sound field programs with headphones (SILENT CINEMA) SILENT CINEMA allows you to enjoy multi-channel music or movie sound, including Dolby Digital and DTS sources, through ordinary headphones. SILENT CINEMA is automatically activated whenever you connect headphones to the PHONES jack while listening to CINEMA DSP sound field programs (except for 7ch) (see page 40). When activated, the SILENT CINEMA indicator lights up in the front panel display. ■ Enjoying unprocessed input sources (Straight decoding mode) When this unit is in the "STRAIGHT" mode, multichannel sources are decoded straight into the appropriate channels without any additional effect processing. 2channel stereo sources are output from only the front left and right speakers. Press PSTRAIGHT (or press 5AMP and then press CSTRAIGHT) to select "STRAIGHT". To deactivate the "STRAIGHT" mode, press PSTRAIGHT (or press 5AMP and then CSTRAIGHT) again so that "STRAIGHT" disappears from the front panel display. English 41 En

Using sound field programs without
surround speakers (Virtual CINEMA
DSP)
Virtual CINEMA DSP allows you to enjoy the CINEMA
DSP programs without surround speakers by creating
virtual speakers.
If you set “SUR. L/R SP” to “NONE” (see page 66),
Virtual CINEMA DSP is automatically activated
whenever you select a CINEMA DSP program (see
page 40).
Virtual CINEMA DSP will not be activated even when “SUR. L/
R SP” is set to “NONE” (see page 66) in the following cases:
– when “7ch Stereo” (see page 40) is selected.
– when headphones are connected to the PHONES jack.
