If You're Stuck: In Sand, Mud, Ice or Snow What you don't wantto do when your vehicle is stuck is to spin your wheelstoo fast. The method known as "rocking" can help you getout when you're stuck, but you must use caution. I NOTICE: Spinning yourwheels can destroy parts your of vehicle as well as thetires. If you spin thewheels too fastwhile shifting your transmission back and forth,you can destroy your transmission. 1 A CAUTION: If you let your tires spin high speed, they can at explode, and you or others could be injured. And, the transmission or other partsthe vehicle can of overheat. That could cause an engine compartment fire or other damage. When you're stuck, spin the wheels as little as possible. Don't spin thewheels above 35 mph (55 km/h) as shown on the speedometer. 1 For information about using chains on your vehicle, tire see "Tire Chains" in the Index. Rocking Your Vehi :o Get It Out First, turn your steering wheel and right. That will left clear the area around your front wheels. Then shift back and forth between REVERSE and a forward gear, (R) spinning the wheels as little as possible. Release the accelerator pedal whileyou shift, and press lightly on the accelerator pedal when the transmission is gear. If in that doesn't getyou out after a few tries, you may need to be towed out.
