Installing Microsoft Windows NT / 2000 / XP Installing Microsoft Windows NT / 2000 / XP 4 This section covers installation issues related to the Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, and Windows NT operating systems. For a successful installation, study your specific Operating System manuals thoroughly. The required drivers described in this section can be created from the RAID Software Suite CD-ROM. 4.1 Operating System Installation Procedures Note: Begin the installation process in this chapter if you are installing the OS and the ICP RAID controller or upgrading from the Windows NT OS (the OS is currently installed on a compatible ICP RAID controller) to Windows 2000. Your installation falls into one of two categories: • Install the OS on either an array drive or single disk that is attached to and configured on the ICP RAID controller that you are installing (see Section 4.1.2), or • Install the OS on either an IDE hard disk or a SCSI hard disk that is not attached to the ICP RAID controller that you are installing (see Section 4.1.3) 4.1.1 4.1.1.1 4.1.1.2 4.1.1.3 Pre-Installation Requirements Checklist Minimum Hardware Requirements For detailed hardware requirements, specifications, and installation procedures specific to your ICP RAID controller, consult the Hardware Guide. Computer System Requirements • Computer with CD-ROM Drive • One available PCI slot • ICP RAID controller • PCI 2.2 compliant system BIOS • SCSI hard disk drives (the minimum needed to meet desired RAID level requirements) Minimum Software Requirements Microsoft Windows 2000 • RAID Software Suite CD-ROM • 9 MB of free hard disk space (for the RAID Software Suite) • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional*, Server* or Advanced Server* 48 Software Installation and User's Guide
