Heat shield Description Heat shield for use in 4540s models Heat shield for use in 4440s/4441s models Spare part number 687696-001 683497-001 Before removing the heat shield, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 42). 5. Remove the following components: a. Bottom door (see Bottom door on page 44). b. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 56) Remove the heat shield: 1. Position the computer upside-down with the front toward you. 2. If disassembling model 4440s/4441s, skip to step 7. 3. For model 4540s, remove the three Phillips PM2.5×6.0 screws (1) that secure the heat shield to the computer. 4. Slide the shield toward the inside of the computer (2). 5. Before removing the heat shield, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn
the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2.
Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3.
Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet,
and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4.
Remove the battery (see
Battery
on page
42
).
5.
Remove the following components:
a.
Bottom door (see
Bottom door
on page
44
).
b.
Keyboard (see
Keyboard
on page
56
)
Remove the heat shield:
1.
Position the computer upside-down with the front toward you.
2.
If disassembling model 4440s/4441s, skip to step 7.
3.
For model 4540s, remove the three Phillips PM2.5×6.0 screws
(1)
that secure the heat shield to
the computer.
4.
Slide the shield toward the inside of the computer
(2)

5.
Rotate the top of the shield upward
