Replacing the power supply assembly Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding "Important Safety Information" on page 1. This section provides instructions on how to replace the power supply assembly. To replace the power supply assembly, do the following: 1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Place a soft, clean towel or cloth on the desk or surface. Hold the sides of your computer and gently lay it down so that the screen is against the surface and the cover is facing up. 3. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 83. 4. Locate the power supply assembly. See "Locating major FRUs and CRUs (for models with the 20-inch display)" on page 73 or "Locating major FRUs and CRUs (for models with the 23-inch display)" on page 76. 5. Remove the VESA mount bracket and disconnect the cables of the power supply assembly from the system board. See "Replacing the thermal sensor" on page 98. 6. Replacing the power supply assembly

This section provides instructions on how to replace the power supply assembly.
To replace the power supply assembly, do the following:
1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect
all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.
2. Place a soft, clean towel or cloth on the desk or surface. Hold the sides of your computer and gently lay
it down so that the screen is against the surface and the cover is facing up.
3. Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the computer cover” on page 83.
4. Locate the power supply assembly. See “Locating major FRUs and CRUs (for models with the 20-inch
display)” on page 73 or “Locating major FRUs and CRUs (for models with the 23-inch display)” on
page 76.
5. Remove the VESA mount bracket and disconnect the cables of the power supply assembly from the
system board. See “Replacing the thermal sensor” on page 98.
6. Remove the screws

to disengage the power cord connector and the power supply assembly
from the chassis.
