This is particularly effective for shooting scenes with high contrast, such as brightly lit outdoor scenery from a dark room or shaded subjects at a sunny seaside. a High, b Normal, c Low Set the level of the Active D-Lighting effect that is applied during shooting. k Off (default setting) Active D-Lighting is not applied. When Active D-Lighting is enabled, the current setting is displayed during shooting (A8). When Off is selected, an icon for the current setting is not displayed. B Notes on Active D-Lighting • Additional time is required to record pictures when shooting using Active D-Lighting. • The exposure is reduced in comparison to shooting with Active D-Lighting set to Off. To ensure that the gradation is appropriate, adjustments of the highlighted areas, shadow areas and midtones are made before recording. • This feature cannot be used simultaneously with certain features. B Active D-Lighting Versus D-Lighting The Active D-Lighting option in the shooting menu reduces exposure before shooting to optimize the dynamic range.
