DOC (Disk Orchestra Collection)
This voice allocation format is compatible with many of
Yamaha’s MIDI devices, including the Clavinova series
instruments.
This is also common format used with various Yamaha
software.
GS
GS was developed by the Roland Corporation.
In the same way as Yamaha XG, GS is a major
enhancement of the GM specifically to provide more
voices and drum kits and their variations, as well as
greater expressive control over voices and effects.
Even if the devices and data used satisfy all the conditions
above, the data may still not be completely compatible,
depending on the specifications of the devices and
particular data recording methods.
Disk format
It is necessary to first configure the floppy disk to the
system of the device being used. This operation is called
“formatting.”
There are two types of floppy disks: MF2DD (double
sided, double density) and MF2HD (double sided, high
density), and each type has different formatting
systems.
Playback is only possible when the MIDI device to be
used is compatible with the format of the disk.
