Running Your Engine While You're Parked It's better not to park with engine running. But if you the ever have to, here aresome things to know. A CAUTION: I It can be dangerous toget out of your vehicle if the shift lever not fully in is PARK (P) with the parking brake firmly Your vehicle can roll. set. Don't leave your vehicle when the engine is running unless you have to. If you've left the engine running, thevehicle can move suddenly. You or otherscould be injured.To be sure your vehicle won't move, even when you're on fairly level ground, always setyour parking brake and PARK ( ) move the shift lever to P. Follow the proper steps to sure your vehicle won't be move, See "Shifting IntoPARK (P)" in the Index. If you are parking on hill and if you're pulling a a trailer, alsosee "Towing a Trailer" in the Index. A CAUTION: Idling the engine with the climate control system off could allow dangerous exhaust into your vehicle (see the earlier Caution under "Engine Exhaust"). Also, idling in a closed-in placecan let deadly carbon monoxide (CO) into yourvehicle even if the fanswitch is at the highestsetting. One place this can happen a garage.
