ICM Method The ICM Method setting specifies how to print your color graphics. The following options are available. • Disabled is the default setting. • ICM Handled by Host Systemcauses the calculations for color matching to be performed on the host computer before it sends the document to the printer. • ICM Handled by Printer calculates the color matching on your printer. In this case, a set of rules for mapping the colors is created and downloaded to the printer (which must be PostScript level 2 emulation or higher). The printer uses these rules to adjust colors in the document. • ICM Handled by Printer using printer calibration (available on the PS driver only) calculates the color matching on your printer. In this case, the set of rules for mapping the colors is already downloaded to the printer (which must be PostScript level 2 emulation or higher), so it is not created or downloaded again. ICM Intent This control specifies how color images are created to produce the best looking image on the printed page. The following options are available. • Graphics is the best setting to use if you are printing a chart or using fully saturated, bright colors. • Pictures is the default setting. Use this setting to maximize the contrast for photographs or pictures where the colors blend together. • Proof is the setting to use if your document uses a color that you need to match exactly, and you are sending the document to a printer that has that specific color of ink. • Match allows you to preview the color settings from another printer. TrueType Font (PS only) This control specifies the TrueType font options for the PS unidriver. The following options are available. • Substitute with Device Font, which is the default setting, causes the printer to use equivalent printer fonts for printing documents that contain TrueType fonts. This permits faster printing; however, you might lose special characters not supported by the printer font. • Download as Softfont downloads TrueType fonts for printing instead of using printer fonts. Document Options The Document Options settings contain the following controls. • Advanced Printing Features • Color Printing Mode (PCL 6 and PCL 5c only) • Print Optimizations (PCL 6 and PCL 5c only) • PostScript Options (PS only) • Printer Features • Layout Options Advanced Printing Features When the Advanced Printing Features setting is Enabled, metafile spooling is turned on and Finishing-tab options such as Page Order, Booklet Layout, and Pages per Sheet are available, depending on your printer. For normal printing, leave the Advanced Printing Features setting at the default (Enabled). If compatibility problems occur, you can disable the feature. When disabled, metafile spooling is turned off and the printing options might be unavailable. 136 HP PCL 6, PCL 5c, and PS unidriver features Software Technical Reference ENWW

ICM Method
The
ICM Method
setting specifies how to print your color graphics. The following options are available.
Disabled
is the default setting.
ICM Handled by Host System
causes the calculations for color matching to be performed on the host computer
before it sends the document to the printer.
ICM Handled by Printer
calculates the color matching on your printer. In this case, a set of rules for mapping the
colors is created and downloaded to the printer (which must be PostScript level 2 emulation or higher). The printer
uses these rules to adjust colors in the document.
ICM Handled by Printer using printer calibration
(available on the PS driver only) calculates the color matching
on your printer. In this case, the set of rules for mapping the colors is already downloaded to the printer (which
must be PostScript level 2 emulation or higher), so it is not created or downloaded again.
ICM Intent
This control specifies how color images are created to produce the best looking image on the printed page.
The following options are available.
Graphics

colors blend together.
Proof
is the setting to use if your document uses a color that you need to match exactly, and you are sending the
document to a printer that has that specific color of ink.
Match
allows you to preview the color settings from another printer.
TrueType Font (PS only)
This control specifies the TrueType font options for the PS unidriver. The following options are available.
Substitute with Device Font
, which is the default setting, causes the printer to use equivalent printer fonts for
printing documents that contain TrueType fonts. This permits faster printing; however, you might lose special
characters not supported by the printer font.
Download as Softfont
downloads TrueType fonts for printing instead of using printer fonts.
