Back Up Your Data Before you start the upgrade, you must back up all hard disk drives and verify that the backup can be restored. Locate the socket in which you will install the DIMM, and spread the two retaining clips outward (see Figure 4-2). 3. CAUTION Do not rock the DIMM into place, but apply firm and even pressure directly downward. Processors Use the following guidelines when adding processors to your NetServer: l This upgrade kit ships with two processors, but and cache size. l Two VRMs are preinstalled on the system board which support the two processors shipped with this upgrade kit. l For each additional processor that - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LH 3000/3000r to LH 6000/6000r Upgrade Guide - Page 27

Chapter 4 Installing LH 6000/6000r Components 1. Loosen the thumbscrew and open the access cover to processor slots 1, 2, and 3. Processor slots 1 and 2 are empty, and slot 3 contains a terminator. Rotate the retaining latches into the flat, closed position. 6. the large flat surface (if your VRM has one) or any components on the board. Pushing on any part of the VRM except the edge of the main board may result in damage to the VRM. d. you have finished installing processors and DIMMs, you are ready to install the new system board. 1. Carefully reinsert the system board assembly into its guides. See Figures 4-9 and 4-10 for the correct orientation. 2. System Board in Rack Orientation Install Third Power Supply The HP NetServer LH 6000/6000r requires three power supplies. The third power supply comes as part of the Power Supply Upgrade Kit. NOTE The Power Supply Upgrade Kit provides the third power supply, but does not provide redundancy. If - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LH 3000/3000r to LH 6000/6000r Upgrade Guide - Page 33
Install the third power supply as follows: 1. From the back of the NetServer, loosen the thumbscrews and remove a filler panel from the power supply bay. See Figure 4-11. Installing LH 6000/6000r Components 2. Set the new power supply module in the open bay. See Figure 4-12. CAUTION When lifting a power supply module, be prepared to support its weight. Hold the power supply module with two hands. 3. Push in the power supply module, seat it firmly, and tighten the - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LH 3000/3000r to LH 6000/6000r Upgrade Guide - Page 35
an HP NetServer LH 6000r in the rack orientation, slide the NetServer back into the rack chassis and secure it to the rack. 4. Install the additional power cord shipped with the Power Supply Upgrade Kit. This power cord connects to the cage that holds power supplies 3 and 4. the new processor modules, or a later version for this model NetServer. To update your NetServer's firmware: 1. Insert the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM that came with this upgrade kit. 2. Turn on power to your NetServer. After the NetServer starts, you will see a message similar to the following - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LH 3000/3000r to LH 6000/6000r Upgrade Guide - Page 38
Setup utility to reset your configuration in CMOS. 1. Make sure the new HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM is still inserted and turn on power to the HP NetServer. 2. Check the LEDs on each power supply. When a power supply is operating correctly, its LED glows steady green. 3. Start the Setup utility - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LH 3000/3000r to LH 6000/6000r Upgrade Guide - Page 39
as follows: 1. Insert the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM if it is not already in place, and power on the NetServer. 2. Choose NetServer Utilities from the Main Menu of the NetServer Navigator. 3. HP DiagTools scans the NetServer and identifies all installed components, such as processors, memory, and SCSI devices. 3. to a temporary area in memory. 3. To change where you will save your file, press F12 (Change Selection). 4. If you are saving your file to a flexible diskette, remove HP DiagTools Diskette #1 and insert a newly formatted diskette. 5. Press F4 (Write to File) to create your Support Ticket. 6. Prepare Your Boot Drive Before you reinstall your NOS, you must repartition your boot drive or, if your boot drive is on a HP NetRAID logical drive, you must reinitialize your boot logical drive.
