4 Installing LH 6000/6000r Components This chapter explains the following steps to install the new HP NetServer LH 6000/6000r components: l Install DIMMs in the new system board. l Install processors in the new system board. l Install new system board. l Install third power supply. l Install bezel nameplate and labels. l Replace NetServer covers. Install DIMMs Install DIMMs on your LH 6000/6000r system board as follows: 1. Identify where you will install the DIMMs. a. The two DIMMs shipped with the upgrade kit must be installed in slots 1A and 1B as shown in Figure 4-1. b. If you plan to install other DIMMs removed from the NetServer LH 3000/3000r, be sure you follow these rules: ∗ DIMMs are always installed in pairs. After installing the first pair of DIMMs, subsequent pairs can be installed in sockets 2A and 2B, 3A and 3B, and 4A and 4B. ∗ Each pair of DIMMs must be of the same size. ∗ Although the two DIMMs in each pair must have the same capacity, pairs with different capacities can be mixed on the system board. For example, you can install a pair of 1-GB DIMMs, a pair of 128-MB DIMMs, and so on. ∗ DIMMs that differ in type cannot be mixed. 19

Components
This chapter explains the following steps to install the new HP NetServer
LH 6000/6000r components:
Install DIMMs in the new system board.
Install processors in the new system board.
Install new system board.
Install third power supply.
Install bezel nameplate and labels.
Replace NetServer covers.
Install DIMMs
Install DIMMs on your LH 6000/6000r system board as follows:
1.
Identify where you will install the DIMMs.
a.
The two DIMMs shipped with the upgrade kit must be installed in slots
1A and 1B as shown in Figure 4-1.
b.
If you plan to install other DIMMs removed from the NetServer
LH 3000/3000r, be sure you follow these rules:
