Chapter 5 Installing Additional Memory Installing 128 MB SDRAM DIMMs on the 4 GB Memory Board Follow these steps to install a 128 MB SDRAM DIMM in a slot on the 4 GB memory board. CAUTION Use only 128 MB SDRAM DIMMs acquired from HP. Contact HP Customer Support for a list of qualified 128 MB SDRAM DIMMs. HP will not support configurations that use non-HP SDRAM DIMMs. 1. If you are installing a new memory board, remove the 4 GB memory board from its anti-static container. 2. With the board resting flat, component-side up, on a firm anti-static surface, orient it so that the edge connector faces you. 3. Remove an HP 128 MB SDRAM DIMM (Figure 5-5) from its container, handling the module by its edges. Lay it on an anti-static surface. NOTE Figure 5-5. Locate the slot where you will install the 128 SDRAM DIMM, and spread the two DIMM retaining clips outward. See Figure 5-6. 40

Installing 128 MB SDRAM DIMMs on the 4 GB
Memory Board
Follow these steps to install a 128 MB SDRAM DIMM in a slot on the 4 GB
memory board.
CAUTION
Use only 128 MB SDRAM DIMMs acquired from HP.
Contact HP Customer Support for a list of qualified 128 MB
SDRAM DIMMs. HP will not support configurations that use
non-HP SDRAM DIMMs.
1.
If you are installing a new memory board, remove the 4 GB memory
board from its anti-static container.
2.
With the board resting flat, component-side up, on a firm anti-static
surface, orient it so that the edge connector faces you.
3.
Remove an HP 128 MB SDRAM DIMM (Figure 5-5) from its container,
handling the module by its edges. Lay it on an anti-static surface.

NOTE
Refer to "Installation Basics" for a refresher on installation
guidelines. Figure 5-1 to Figure 5-3 provide important visual
clues for simplifying SDRAM DIMM installation.
4.
Locate the slot where you will install the 128 SDRAM DIMM, and spread
the two DIMM retaining clips outward. See Figure 5-6.
