Removing the hot-plug fan To remove the component: 1. Power down the server (see Powering down the server on page 16). 2. Remove all power: a. Disconnect each power cord from the power source. b. Disconnect each power cord from the server. 3. Extend the server from the rack (see Extending the server from the rack on page 17). 4. Remove the access panel (see Removing the access panel on page 18). 5. Remove the fan. CAUTION: Do not operate the server for long periods with the access panel open or removed. Operating the server in this manner results in improper airflow and improper cooling that can lead to thermal damage. IMPORTANT: For optimum cooling, install fans in all primary fan locations. For more information, refer to the fan locations table (Hot-plug fans on page 14). To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. Removing the hot-plug fan 21

Removing the hot-plug fan
To remove the component:
1.
Power down the server (see

2.
Remove all power:
a.
Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
b.
Disconnect each power cord from the server.
3.
Extend the server from the rack (see

).
4.
Remove the access panel (see

5.
Remove the fan.
