Control positions and names Remote Control U.S. & Canada: RC-P101S Other areas: RC-P201S The TX-DS838's remote control can be used to operate components equipped with an Onkyo RI (Remote Interactive) connector and connected to the RI connectors on the TX-D5838. Refer to Remote control connections on page 12 for connection details. The remote control can also be used to operate other brands of video equipment if the correct device code is programmed into the remote control. Refer to the Separate Remote Controller Set-up & Code List for details on how to program a device code. O MUTE button Temporarily switches off the sound from the speakers, and PRE OUT and PHONES outputs, but not the MULTI-SOURCE output. The AUDIO MUTING indicator on the display flashes. Press this button again or turn the power off and on again to cancel the audio muting. 0 On-screen cursor operation -4 / 0./A/V buttons Allow you to move the cursor in the on-screen display. O ENTER button Displays the Menu screen or enters the cursor operation in the on-screen display. O Device select switch Allows you to select the component that you wish to operate or to enter a remote control code. O INPUT SELECTOR buttons Allow you to select from TAPE-1, TUNER or CD. O VIDEO -II / PO' buttons Allow you to select from VIDEO-1 through -4. O AUDIO -.II /P. buttons Allow you to select from TAPE-1, TUNER, PHONO or CD. 8 VOL V/A buttons Allow you to adjust the volume level of the selected component. AMP controls: The following buttons can be used when the device select switch is set to AMP. © SLEEP button Sets the power-off timer, which turns off the power to the system after a certain period of time has passed. Press this button to display "90 MIN". With each press of this button, subtract 10 minutes from the timer setting until the desired time is displayed. Five seconds after this button is first pressed, the timer automatically starts and the SLEEP indicator on the display lights up. Press this button while the indicator is lit to display the amount of time remaining. Each time this button is pressed while the remaining time is displayed, 10 minutes are subtracted from the time. If this button is pressed while 10 minutes or less appear in the display, the sleep timer is cancelled and the power is not turned off. ® TEST button Starts the test tone when adjusting the volume balance between the speakers. C) DIMMER-button Changes the brightness of the display in four steps: bright, medium, dim and off. MAIN•A button Turns the speakers A on or off. © REMOTE•B button Turns the speakers B on and off. 13 CH.SEL button Switches between the speakers during the volume adjustment of the speakers. ® SUR. MODE A/V buttons ©Allow you to select the Surround mode. LEVEL A/V buttons Adjust the playback level of the speakers.
