Types of trouble and how to correct trouble During playback Symptom Cause and/or Corrective Actions Playback is not possible. • The tape has run out. c Rewind the tape (p. 38). There are horizontal lines on the picture or the playback picture is not clear or does not appear. • The video head may be dirty. c Clean the head using the cleaning cassette (optional) (p. 203). No sound or only a low sound is heard when playing back the tape. • The stereo tape is played back with HiFi SOUND set to 2 in the menu settings. c Set HiFi SOUND to STEREO (p. 175). • Volume is turned to minimum. c Turn up the volume (p. 37). • AUDIO MIX is set to the ST2 side in the menu settings. c Adjust AUDIO MIX (p. 175). The sound breaks off. • The video head may be dirty. c Clean the head using the cleaning cassette (optional) (p. 203). Displaying the record date, date search does not work. • The cassette has no Cassette Memory. c Use a cassette with Cassette Memory (p. 74). • CM SEARCH is set to OFF in the menu settings. c Set it to ON (p. 178). • The tape has a blank portion in the recorded portion (p. 75).
