184 Detecting Configuring signature detection Managing signature variables Symantec Network Security provides signature variables for speed and accuracy, such as the variable name port to stand for a value of 2600. The signature variables apply globally to all signatures, both default Symantec signatures and any user-defined signatures. This section includes the following topics: ■ Adding new signature variables ■ Editing signatures variables ■ Deleting signatures variables ■ Resetting signatures variables ■ Applying signatures variables ■ Reverting signatures variables Adding new signature variables Symantec Network Security provides signature variables for speed and accuracy. The signature variables apply to all signatures, both the default Symantec signatures and any user-defined signatures that you add. To add new signature variables 1 On the Policies tab, click Signature Variables > New. 2 In Variable Name, enter a name for the signature variable that you want to make available. 3 In Value, enter a value, and click OK to save and exit. To apply this change to the database, see "Applying signatures variables" on page 185. Editing signatures variables Symantec Network Security provides an easy way to edit signature variables for reuse. The signature variables apply to all signatures, both the default Symantec signatures and any user-defined signatures that you add. To edit signature variables 1 On the Policies tab, click Signature Variables. 2 In Signature Variables, select a signature variable, and click Edit. 3 In Edit Variable, do any or all of the following: ■ In Variable Name, edit the name for the signature variable.
