About the serial console You can use the serial console for initial configuration of the appliance and for command line access to the operating system utilities and filesystems. The serial console provides an alternative to using the LCD panel for initial configuration. Serial console access requires a valid username and password. About the compact flash Other new appliance management functionality involves the compact flash. The compact flash can be used for initial configuration and for full backup and restore. Slave appliance nodes can be initially configured from compact flash. On the Network Security console, a SuperUser adds the node to the topology and then writes the node configuration to the compact flash. Lab personnel can use the compact flash card for the initial configuration of the new appliance.
