Skips / Smears A disturbance of the image which lengthens or shortens the image in the process direction. A darkening across the process direction or a repeat of the image in the process direction. XXXEEERRROOOXXX Initial Actions I Check that the paper supply is dry and fresh. I Check to ensure that the paper is within specification. I Check the paper path for any obstructions or debris. Skips/Smears Troubleshooting Procedure Step Actions and Questions 1 Print a test print. Does the image have skips or smears? 2 Check, clean, or replace as necessary in the following sequence: I Transport Chute Assembly (page 6-65). I Main Drive Gear Assembly (RRP 8.2 on page 6-85). I Fuser Assembly (page 6-66). Does the defect still occur? Yes No Go to step 2. Problem solved. Replace the Print Cartridge (PL 8.1 Drive and Xerographics on page 7-20). Problem solved.
