18 CHAPTER 2 Making the Switch from PageMaker to InDesign The Control palette, which is located at the bottom of the application window in PageMaker, is docked at the top of the application window in InDesign. Other palettes, such as the Pages, Swatches, and Stroke palettes, are collapsed into tabs at the side of the application window (Windows) or screen (Mac OS). You can customize the layout of the toolbox and palettes. To prevent the Welcome screen from appearing when InDesign starts, deselect the Show This Dialog at Startup option. You can display it again by choosing Help > Welcome Screen. For more information about working with palettes, tools, and menus, see InDesign Help. Using the tools The InDesign toolbox includes all the tools found in PageMaker, plus additional tools for drawing and laying out pages, stroke and fill proxies, and icons for previewing your document in one of four preview modes.
