ADOBE INDESIGN CS PAGEMAKER EDITION 35 User Guide Supplement If you place a graphic while the Type tool is active, the graphic appears as an inline graphic, rather than a stand-alone graphic with its own frame. Choose Undo, and then click to place the graphic. To place a stand-alone graphic, switch to the Selection tool first. Display resolution of graphics Like PageMaker, InDesign lets you display graphics using placeholders, low-resolution images, or high-resolution images. In addition, you can override the default display performance setting for individual graphics and interrupt time-consuming redraws. Linking and embedding graphics The Links palette in InDesign is similar to the Links Manager dialog box in PageMaker. By default, InDesign creates links to imported graphics. In the Links palette, you can embed a graphic in your document, locate a missing graphic, or open an original graphic for editing. InDesign does not support OLE (Windows) or Publish/Subscribe (Mac OS). A B C Links palette A. Missing link B. Linked graphic C. Preserving transparency InDesign retains transparency in imported graphics and lets you import alpha channels embedded in Adobe Photoshop files. You can also create clipping paths in InDesign to mask parts of an image or mask an image by adjusting the graphics frame . For more information about embedded paths and alpha channels, clipping paths, or using a graphics frame to crop or mask objects, see InDesign Help.
