Exporting to XML
InDesign supports two different workflows for
XML:
You can import XML content to InDesign and
automatically format tagged items using
paragraph or character styles.
You can apply XML tags to content in an
InDesign document, and then export the tagged
content to an XML file.
Content tagged for XML appears in the Structure
pane of the InDesign document window. XML
tags appear in the Tags palette.

Many workgroups use Document Type Definition
(DTD) files to define the names and structure of
tags in a shared XML document. You can import
DTD files into InDesign and use them to validate
XML tags you’ve applied.
For more information about XML in
InDesign or using a DTD to structure XML
content, see InDesign Help.
Repurposing content for the Web
InDesign lets you package a document as a
collection of text files (stories), graphics, sound
files, movies, and other items that can be reused in
Adobe GoLive, Adobe’s Web production software.
This allows you to reuse content from documents
designed for print to create new designs that work
well on the Web.
Page items from an InDesign document are used in
a Web page.
To present content on the Web exactly as it
appears in your InDesign document, export the
document in PDF and link to the PDF file from your
Web page. (For details, see InDesign Help.)
