D-Link DES-3326S Layer 3 Switch Notes on Standalone Operation The DES-3326S operates as a standalone Switch using the default configuration settings when it is not connected to another Switch through a stacking port. It may also be configured to disable stacking for the Switch, in which case, if a stacking module is installed, the stacking port should not be used. Configuration settings for a standalone Switch are saved in a configuration file that is only used for standalone operation. This standalone configuration is used whenever the Switch is used as a standalone Switch, even if the stacking mode is enabled for Auto or Master. Likewise, a separate configuration file is used when a Switch is operating as a stacked unit. This is important if the stacking function of a Switch is changed from standalone operation. For example, if a standalone Switch is later used as a Master Switch for a stack, it will NOT load the previously created standalone configuration file. A Switch that makes a transition from standalone operation to Master, must be reconfigured with new IP settings and other settings. To Disable Stacking If you prefer to disable stacking for a standalone Switch, use the CLI command config stacking mode disable. Once stacking mode has been disabled on a Switch, do not use the stacking ports (if there are any installed). Figure 2 - 10. config stacking mode disable 28
