Symptom While you are charging the batteries, no animation of the battery indicator is displayed. The animation of the battery indicator disappears in the middle of charging. " " or " " is flashing instead of the battery indicator. The battery life of the rechargeable batteries is short. Remedy  You are not using rechargeable batteries.  Rechargeable batteries have been inserted with incorrect polarity.  The USB connecting cable is not connected properly.  "USB CHARGE" of "DETAIL MENU" is set to "OFF" in the menu. To charge the batteries using your computer, set it to "ON."  While playing back messages using the built-in speaker, you cannot charge the batteries.  You cannot charge the batteries while your computer is in the sleep mode.  Rechargeable batteries other than NH-AAA have been inserted.  The rechargeable batteries have deteriorated.  While playing back messages using the built-in speaker, you cannot charge the batteries.  The environmental temperature is out of the range for charging. Charge the batteries in an environment with a temperature of 5 °C - 35 °C (41 °F - 95 °F).  You are using the rechargeable batteries in an environment with a temperature of under 5 °C (41 °F).  The IC recorder has not been used for a certain time. Charge and discharge the rechargeable batteries using the IC recorder several times.  Replace the old ones with new rechargeable batteries.  The battery indicator is displayed only for a short time, however, the rechargeable batteries are not charged completely.
