Quality control Xerographic ink spots can be larger than the ANSI specifications because of the low ferromagnetic component of the dry ink. Also, the xerographic soft spotting effect minimizes the signal pattern defect. Xerographic ink spots can be larger than the ANSI specifications

The following table shows the Xerox MICR printing system
xerographic specification for extraneous ink or spots in the clear
band.
Examples of extraneous ink or spots are illustrated in the
following figure.
Any number of black spots
0.25 mm and smaller / 0.01 inch
Total 16 black spots per page
0.25 mm – 0.40 mm* / 0.01 inch – 0.016 inch
One black spot per page
0.40 mm – 0.50 mm / 0.016 inch – 0.02 inch
No black spots
0.50 mm or larger / <0.02 inch
*No more than one spot per 6 by 3 mm / 0.25 by 0.125 inch area is allowed if
the spot is greater than 0.01 inch/0.25 mm in size.
