Document design External processing code (EPC) field The External Processing Code (EPC) field is an optional field between the Transit and Auxiliary On-Us fields at position 44 or 45. When present, this field indicates that the document is eligible for special processing. Auxiliary On-Us field The Auxiliary On-Us field is an optional field that is sometimes used by the banks for additional processing information or high value serial numbers. When it is present, it is the farthest left on the check, between positions 45 or 46 through 65. This field is not present on personal checks because of space limitations. On business checks, it usually contains the check serial number or accounting control information specific to that account.
