D-Link DES-3250TG Standalone Layer 2 Switch 4 CONNECTING THE SWITCH This chapter describes how to connect the DES-3250TG to your Ethernet/Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet network. The Switch's auto-detection feature allows all 48 10/100 ports to support both MDIII and MDI-X connections. Switch to End Node End nodes include PCs outfitted with a 10, 100, or 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet/Fast Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) and most routers. An end node can be connected to the Switch via a two-pair Category 3, 4, or 5 UTP/STP cable. The end node should be connected to any of the ports (1x - 48x) on the switch. Figure 4-1. Switch connected to an End Node • The Link/Act LEDs in the top row for each UTP port light green when the link is valid. A blinking LED in the top row indicates packet activity on that port. Switch to Hub or Switch These connections can be accomplished in a number of ways using a normal cable. ● A 10BASE-T hub or switch can be connected to the Switch via a two-pair Category 3, 4 or 5 UTP/STP cable. ● A 100BASE-TX hub or switch can be connected to the Switch via a two-pair Category 5 UTP/STP cable. 10
