Removing a Drive from an External Bay You may need to remove a drive for service or replacement. Caution Before you remove a hard disk drive, make sure you have backup copies of all your files and programs. You can use backup software or the backup utility in your operating system. Refer to your online help files or your software documentation for instructions. To remove a drive from an external drive bay, follow these steps: 1. Remove the drive mounting bracket, following the instructions under "Removing the Drive Mounting Bracket." (You can remove the bracket and drives without disconnecting the drive cables.) 2. Removing a Drive from an External Bay
You may need to remove a drive for service or replacement.
Caution
Before you remove a hard disk drive, make sure you have
backup copies of all your files and programs. You can use
backup software or the backup utility in your operating
system. Refer to your online help files or your software
documentation for instructions.
To remove a drive from an external drive bay, follow these
steps:
1.
Remove the drive mounting bracket, following the
instructions under “Removing the Drive Mounting
Bracket.” (You can remove the bracket and drives without
disconnecting the drive cables.)
2.
Disconnect all cables from the drive you are removing.
3.
Remove the screws securing the drive on both sides.
