Troubleshooting the digital sender Note General digital sender troubleshooting Use the table below to solve common problems encountered while using the digital sender. Contact HP customer support if the actions suggested below do not resolve the problem. As a general rule for all problems, check both the control panel and activity log for relevant messages. You can find an explanation of these messages under "Control panel messages" on page 141 and "Activity log messages" on page 170. General digital sender troubleshooting Problem Actions Digital sender is not working. Make sure the power cable is securely connected to the digital sender and is plugged into the power outlet. Make sure the digital sender is turned on. Make sure the digital sender is unlocked. If you try to send a document when the digital sender is locked, it will emit a harsh, grinding sound. See if the digital sender has overheated. The digital sender automatically turns off if environmental conditions cause it to overheat. If this happens, turn the power off, wait for it to cool down, and then turn it back on. Check that the digital sender is connected to and communicating on the network. To do this, use a network command such as ping. You can also use the HP JetAdmin software by trying to find the device on the network. Digital sender is not working after you have installed a new JetDirect print server. Try to display the self-test page (see "Displaying the self-test page" on page 116). If you cannot display the page, there is a problem between the digital sender and the HP JetDirect print server. On the self-test page, make sure the TCP/IP status parameter reads "READY." Ensure that you have installed the HP JetDirect print server correctly. Check that all cabling is securely connected. Turn the digital sender off and then back on.
