Troubleshooting the installation
65
A newly configured
digital sender does not
appear in the
HP JetAdmin software
device list.
The discovery process can sometimes take a while. Wait a few
minutes.
In the HP JetAdmin software, refresh the database with F5. Or,
click
Device
and then click
Find
. In the
Find a device
dialog box,
type the IP address you assigned and then click
Find
.
Force a complete new discovery by pressing F7. This might take a
long time if you have a large number of devices on your network.
Then repeat the
Device/Find
steps.
Go to
Options/Preferences
on the
TCP/IP Discovery
page. Add
the IP address to the list of devices for which to search. Click
OK
and then press
F7 again.
In the HP JetAdmin software, click
View
and then click
Details
.
Choose to show the IP address column by clicking
View
and then
Columns
and then adding the IP address to the selected
headings. Click
OK
to return to the main window device list and
see if the digital sender is listed with its IP address.
The digital sender does
not have a valid IP
address.
If the digital sender was assigned a default IP address or you did
not assign an IP address (either manually at the control panel or
through DHCP or BOOTP), display the self-test page and note the
MAC address (see “Displaying the self-test page” on page 116). In
the HP JetAdmin software, click
Device
and then click
New
. You
should see the MAC address for the digital sender listed. Click the
device, click
Configure
, and then configure an IP address. You
should be able to see the digital sender when you return to the
main window device list.
The digital sender is not
working after you have
installed a new
JetDirect card.
Try to display the self-test page (see “Displaying the self-test
page” on page 116). If you cannot display the page, there is a
problem between the digital sender and the HP JetDirect print
server (interface card). If you can display the page, verify that the
TCP/IP status parameter reads
“READY.”
Ensure that you have installed the interface card correctly.
Make sure that all cabling is securely connected.
Turn the digital sender off and then back on.
For Fast Ethernet (10/100Base-TX) networks only (HP J3113A):
Check the LEDs on the interface card. Depending on your
network, either the 10-Mbps or 100-Mbps LED should be lit. If not,
check that the jumper positions match your network (see “HP
JetDirect print server troubleshooting” on page 168 for details).
For Token Ring (IEEE 802.5) networks only (HP J3112A): Make
sure the network data rate on the interface card is set correctly
(either 4 Mbps or 16 Mbps). See “Removing and replacing the
HP JetDirect print server” on page 124 for details.
If the problem persists, contact HP customer support.
