Print Quality (PQ) Defects Area Fills exhibit a "Sand Dune" effect Patterns appear in Area Fills that resemble "sand dunes", "herringbones", "ship wakes", etc. This defect is caused by excessive Printhead-Paper Spacing (PPS). A change in PPS can occur if the Printhead Cartridge is not seated properly or if something has mechanically changed in the printhead sockets. Solution Make note of which PHC is contributing to the defect. It should coincide with a PHC that has been recently installed in the printer. Remove and reseat the printhead. It appears as if there is lint spread out down the page. The photo illustrates a severe case, but less obvious cases can also occur. This defect can appear in printed areas as well as unprinted areas of the media. Solution Print Quality (PQ) Defects "Linty Look" - "Scuff Marks" on Media This can be caused by an insufficient PPS - the printhead face is too close to the media - or ink mist condensing back onto the printhead. Either case can cause tiny ink smudges if the media touches the printhead. If the PPS had recently been changed, or a service station replaced, check the PPS and make any necessary adjustments. If a printhead has been replaced and the smears on the printed page correspond to this printhead, then remove and reseat the printhead. Inspect the printhead(s) that correspond to the smears. If excess ink is present on the face of the printhead, then perform a recovery level '1' on the printhead(s), or clean it as needed. effect
Patterns appear in Area Fills that
resemble

This defect is caused by excessive
Printhead-Paper Spacing (PPS). A
change in PPS can occur if the
Printhead Cartridge is not seated
properly
or
if
something
has
mechanically
changed
in
the
printhead sockets.
Solution
Make

recently
installed in the printer.
Remove and reseat the printhead.
Print Quality
(PQ) Defects
“Linty Look” –
“Scuff Marks” on
Media
It appears as if there is lint spread out
down the page. The photo illustrates
a severe case, but less obvious cases
can also occur. This defect can
appear in printed areas as well as
unprinted areas of the media.
Solution
This can be caused by an insufficient
PPS
the printhead face is too close
to the media
or ink mist condensing
back onto the printhead. Either case
can cause tiny ink smudges if the
media touches the printhead.
If
the
PPS
had
recently
been
changed,
or
a
service
station
replaced, check the PPS and make
any necessary
adjustments.
If a printhead has been replaced and
the smears on
the
printed page
correspond
to this
printhead, then
remove and reseat the printhead.
Inspect
the
printhead(s)
that
correspond to the smears. If excess
ink is present on the face of the
printhead, then perform a recovery
level ‘1’ on the printhead(s), or clean
it as needed.
