34 BASIC SHOOTING OPERATIONS Shooting Using the Monitor Operating Procedure Check that the lens barrier is open. 1. Press the monitor button. [The monitor turns on. Monitor Monitor button 2. Determine the image composition by observing your subject in the monitor. 3. Half-press the shutter button to focus on the subject, and then press it all the way to take the picture. (This operation is identical to the Shooting Using the Viewfinder) ( Page 32). [The orange lamp on the right of the viewfinder blinks for a moment while the image is being written to the card and then goes out. ⅷ Oblique lines on the subject may appear as zigzag lines on the monitor, but this is not malfunction. ⅷ Vertical stripes may appear in the monitor image if it is shot under bright conditions (such as a sunny sky). This is not a malfunction. ⅷ The image displayed on the monitor is intended for use in checking the composition and does not show the correct focus and exposure conditions. Image focusing and exposure should be checked on a TV or PC screen after shooting ( Page 73). Do not apply excessive force to the monitor and the area around it. Doing so could cause the displayed image to blur and may also damage the monitor.
