Chapter 6 Solution When an Ethernet cable is plugged into theHP Wireless Dock Base, the wireless radio turns off. Unplug the Ethernet cable. Weak signal Cause The access point is too far away or there is interference. Solution In order to establish a good signal between the HP Wireless Dock Base and access point, you might have to experiment a bit. Assuming the equipment is functioning properly, try doing the following things separately or in combination: ● If there is a long distance between your computer or access point and the HP Wireless Dock Base, move them closer together. ● If there are metal objects (such as a metal bookcase or refrigerator) in the transmission path, clear the path between the HP Wireless Dock Base and the computer or access point. ● If a cordless telephone, microwave, or other device that emits radio signals transmitting at 2.4 GHz is nearby, move it farther away to reduce radio interference. Error message: Cannot connect to network Cause The equipment is not turned on. Solution Turn on the networked devices, such as the access point for an infrastructure network, or the computer for an ad hoc network. For more information on how to turn on the access point, see the documentation that came with your access point. Cause The HP Wireless Dock Base is not receiving a signal. Solution Move the access point and the HP Wireless Dock Base closer together. Then run the HP Wireless Dock Base Wireless Setup Wizard again. Cause You have entered the SSID incorrectly. Solution Enter the SSID correctly. Remember that the SSID is case-sensitive. Cause You have entered the WEP key incorrectly. Solution Enter the WEP key correctly. Remember that the WEP key is casesensitive. Cause MAC filtering is enabled on your access point.
