Using printer menus Menu selection Advanced Status Purpose Enables bidirectional communication through the parallel port. Values Off On* Protocol Specifies the parallel interface Standard protocol. Fastbytes* Honor Init Parallel Mode 2 Mac Binary PS Determines whether the Off* printer honors hardware initialization requests from the computer. The computer requests initialization by On activating the INIT signal on the parallel interface. Many personal computers activate the INIT signal each time the computer is turned on and off. Determines whether the On* parallel port data is sampled on the leading or trailing edge of strobe. Off Configures the printer to On process Macintosh binary PostScript print jobs. Off Auto* Disables parallel port negotiation. Enables bidirectional communication through the parallel interface. May resolve some parallel interface problems. Provides compatibility with most existing parallel interface implementations (recommended setting). Printer does not honor hardware initialization requests from the computer. Printer honors hardware initialization requests from the computer. Samples parallel port data on the leading edge of strobe. Samples parallel port data on the trailing edge of strobe. Printer processes raw binary PostScript print jobs from computers using the Macintosh operating system. Note: This setting often causes Windows print jobs to fail. Printer filters PostScript print jobs using standard protocol. Printer processes print jobs from computers using either Windows or Macintosh operating systems. 35
