Focus Point Selection The camera offers a choice of eleven focus points that together cover a wide area of the frame. At the default settings, the camera chooses the focus point automatically or focuses on subject in the center focus point. The focus point can also be selected manually to compose photographs with the main subject positioned almost anywhere in the frame. 1 Choose single- or dynamic-area AF. h At default settings, the focus point is selected automatically in i, j, k, l, o, P, S, A, and M modes. To enable manual focus-point selection in these modes, select Single point, Dynamic area, or 3D-tracking (11 points) for Custom Setting a1 (AF-area mode; pg. 173). 2 Set the focus selector lock to "J". Focus selector lock Set the focus selector lock to the "J" position. This allows the multi selector to be used to select the focus point. 3 Select the focus point. Use the multi selector to select the focus point in the viewfinder or control panel while the exposure meters are active (pg. 35). The focus selector lock can be returned to the "L" (locked) position following selection to prevent the selected focus point from changing when the multi selector is pressed.
