It is essential you make these settings in order to get good surround sound . The last set up menu, RENAME, lets you customize the receiver to match your home system. The sound set up modes explained here in a little more detail. The order follows that of the SYSTEM SETUP menu. ASSIGN SETUP: Digital In Select (See p.30) RETURN SETUP In order to use your digital components you must match the numbered digital input settings with the numbered digital jacks used by your digital components. Multi Channel In (See p.31) This is for hooking up a multi channel external decoder that may give you higher quality when decoding discs. This feature lets you select adjustable to non-adjustable sound. Component-In Select (See p.32) MULTI JOG (Turn to select / Push to enter) In order to use component video connections you must tell the receiver which components are hooked to which terminals. Multi Room (See p.81) RETURN button: Press to move back one step in the SETUP process. This receiver can power different systems set up in separate rooms. SURROUND SETUP: Speaker Setting (See p.33 - 34) Use to specify the type and number of speakers you connected. Channel Delay (See p.35) memo Adding a slight delay to some speakers enhances sound separation and is particularly important for achieving a surround sound effect. You need to figure out the distance from your listening position to your speakers to add the proper delay. Channel Level (See p.36 - 37) After you complete one of the System Setup menus and return to the basic System Setup screen the receiver automatically moves the cursor to the next System Setup menu. For example, if you've completed Speaker Settings and returned to the basic System Setup screen, Channel Delay will be selected automatically. You can notice this on your TV screen. Use to balance the volumes of your different speakers. Crossover Network (See p.38) This feature lets you select which bass frequencies will be sent to the subwoofer or front speakers. Bass Peak Level (See p.39) Dolby Digital and DTS audio sources include ultra-low bass tones. Set the bass peak level as needed to prevent the ultralow bass tones from distorting the sound from the speakers.
