ENGLISH Automatic power saving function Troubleshooting ATTENTION The automatic power saving function is only included in European models. The automatic power saving function is ON when this unit is shipped new, so it will automatically turn off if 30 minutes pass under the conditions shown below. Status No cassette tape Stopped Recording paused Cassette tape   -  Automatic power saving function active - Automatic power saving function not active To reactivate the unit after it has turned off automatically, press the POWER button on the main unit twice. Changing the automatic power saving setting 1 Stop both TAPE 1 and TAPE 2. 2 Press the TAPE 1 and TAPE 2 (8) buttons at the same time to show the current setting ("Apwr OFF" or "Apwr On") in the tape counter area. 3 Use the TAPE 2 play (y) button to change the setting. 4 Press the TAPE 2 stop (8) button to return to the ordinary state. If you experience a problem with the unit, please take a moment to review the following information before requesting service. Moreover, the problem might be caused by something other than this unit. Please also check the operation of the connected units. If it still does not operate correctly, contact the retailer where you purchased the unit. The unit does not turn on. ee Check that the power cord is plugged into a working power outlet. ee Check that the power cord is properly connected to this unit. ee Check that the power cord is completely plugged into the power outlet. When the unit is turned on, playback/recording starts unexpectedly. ee Set the TIMER switch to OFF. Remote control does not work. ee Press the POWER button to turn the unit on. ee If the batteries are exhausted, replace both of them with new ones. ee Point the remote control at the front panel of the unit from a distance of less than about 5 m (16 ft). ee The remote control will not work if there is an obstruction between it and the main unit. In this case, try changing the position. ee Turn off any strong light source near this unit. When using the remote control, a television or another device operates in error. ee The use of this unit's remote control might cause some televisions with wireless remote control functions to operate incorrectly. If this should occur, use the main unit's buttons. The unit does not respond when buttons are pressed. ee The unit sometimes does not respond when buttons are pressed during operation. Try pressing the button again after waiting a little while. ee Load a cassette if one is not already loaded. ee Insert the cassette correctly. Continued on the next page e 29
