Setup Enabling the Network Time Protocol 3 Enabling the Network Time Protocol The Network Time Protocol (NTP) is an Internet standard protocol that synchronizes computer clock times on your network. NTP servers transmit Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, also known as Greenwich Mean Time) to their client systems. NTP sends periodic time requests to servers, using the returned time stamp to adjust its clock. The timestamp is used to indicate the date and time of each event in log messages. By using NTP, the AP can obtain and maintain its time from a server on the network. Using an NTP server gives your AP the ability to provide the correct time of day in log messages and session information. See http://www.ntp.org for more information about NTP. To configure the NTP that the access point uses manually as shown in Figure 12 on page 47 or by using a server as shown in Figure 13 on page 48, click the Time tab and update the fields as described in Table 9.
