Symptom Probable cause and recommended action User forgot password. If you know the root password, you can use this procedure to recover the password for the default accounts of user and admin. If you do not know the root password, you must contact your service support provider to recover admin passwords. Recovering passwords 1. Open a CLI connection (serial or Telnet) to the switch. 2. Log in as root. 3. Enter the command for the type of password that was lost: passwd user passwd admin 4. Enter the requested information at the prompts. Symptom Probable cause and recommended action Unable to log in as root password. To recover your root password, contact your switch service provider. Symptom Probable cause and recommended action Unable to log into the boot PROM. To recover a lost boot PROM password, contact your switch service provider. You must have previously set a recovery string to recover the boot PROM password. This does not work on lost or forgotten passwords in the account database. Probable cause and recommended action
If you know the root password, you can use this procedure to recover the password for the default
accounts of user and admin. If you do not know the root password, you must contact your service
support provider to recover admin passwords.
Recovering passwords
1.
Open a CLI connection (serial or Telnet) to the switch.

Log in as root.
3.

passwd user
passwd admin
