Glossary SP (storage processor) SP memory module SPS (standby power supply) storage processor (SP) storage-system caching A printed-circuit board with processor memory modules and control logic that manages the storage-system I/O between the server FC adapter and the disk modules. A memory module (DIMM) that provides the local storage for an SP. A unit that provides temporary backup power in case of a power outage. An SPS is required for storage-system write caching. If power fails, the SPS allows the SP to write the data from its cache to disk. You can replace an SPS under power, without interrupting applications. For SPS installation and cabling information refer to the Standby Power Supply (SPS) Installation and Maintenance document (See "Related Documentation" on page xiii.). See SP (storage processor). Glossary
SP (storage
processor)
A printed-circuit board with processor memory modules and
control logic that manages the storage-system I/O between the
server FC adapter and the disk modules.
SP memory
module
A memory module (DIMM) that provides the local storage for an
SP.
SPS (standby power
supply)
A unit that provides temporary backup power in case of a power
outage. An SPS is required for storage-system write caching. If
power fails, the SPS allows the SP to write the data from its cache
to disk. You can replace an SPS under power, without
interrupting applications. For SPS installation and cabling
information refer to the
Standby Power Supply (SPS) Installation
and Maintenance
document (See
Related Documentation
on
page xiii.).
storage processor
(SP)
See SP (storage processor).
storage-system
caching
The procedure of storing disk-based data in RAM memory (in
this case, DIMM memory on an SP) temporarily to save time if
the data needs to be accessed or changed again soon.
