If you are going to use the answering machine, we recommend setting the Receive mode to AUTO. NOTE: If you want to use Distinctive Ring service from your phone company, set it up and select it using the Rcv.Mode/Contrast button before turning on the answering machine. See "Distinctive ring (DRPD)" on page 30. • AUTO mode • In Ready mode, AU appears in the right hand corner of the display. • When a call comes in, the machine answers it. If a fax is being sent, the device receives the fax. If the HP Fax does not sense a fax signal, it will ring in a different tone to tell you it may be a regular telephone call. If you do not pick up the handset it will again attempt to receive the fax after several more rings. If a greeting has been recorded the HP 1050 Fax will turn on the answering machine and attempt to record a message. • If you want to change the number of rings before it answers, see Set rings to answer on page 27. In Ready mode,
AU
appears in the right hand corner of the
display.
When a call comes in, the machine answers it. If a fax is being
sent, the device receives the fax. If the HP Fax does not sense a fax
signal, it will ring in a different tone to tell you it may be a regular
telephone call. If you do not pick up the handset it will again
attempt to receive the fax after several more rings. If a greeting has
been recorded the HP 1050 Fax will turn on the answering
machine and attempt to record a message.
