Fault Management, Security Management

Page 112 highlights

NOTE: Compaq Insight Manager refers to Intelligent Manageability software on Compaq servers, which provides monitoring, remote maintenance, and asset management of network resources. The asset tag number can be changed in Computer Setup (see Chapter 16, "Computer Setup and Diagnostics Utilities"). Fault Management Fault Management provides the following features to help prevent the loss of critical data: s IntelliSafe hard drive-Constantly monitors hard drive activity to predict failures before they occur. s Temperature sensing-Hardware and software that tracks the internal temperature of the computer and displays a warning message when the normal range is exceeded. A popup message notifies you when a hard drive or system temperature fault is detected. If the computer is connected to a network that is using Compaq Insight Manager, the fault notice can also be seen by the network administrator. Security Management Security management provides a set of security features to protect the computer and data from unauthorized access. s Passwords-Prevents unauthorized access to information stored on the computer or network. s Drive security-Prevents starting the computer from the diskette drive and writing information to the diskette drive. s Device disabling-Prevents unauthorized data transfer over fax/modems, serial ports, parallel ports, and infrared ports. Passwords are set within Windows or in Computer Setup. The drive and device security options are set in Computer Setup. (See Chapter 14, "Security Features," and Chapter 16, "Computer Setup and Diagnostics Utilities.") 15-2 Intelligent Manageability

15-2
Intelligent Manageability
NOTE:
Compaq Insight Manager refers to Intelligent Manageability
software on Compaq servers, which provides monitoring, remote
maintenance, and asset management of network resources.
The asset tag number can be changed in Computer Setup (see
Chapter 16, “Computer Setup and Diagnostics Utilities”).
Fault Management
Fault Management provides the following features to help prevent
the loss of critical data:
IntelliSafe hard drive—Constantly monitors hard drive
activity to predict failures before they occur.
Temperature sensing—Hardware and software that tracks the
internal temperature of the computer and displays a warning
message when the normal range is exceeded.
A popup message notifies you when a hard drive or system
temperature fault is detected. If the computer is connected to a
network that is using Compaq Insight Manager, the fault notice
can also be seen by the network administrator.
Security Management
Security management provides a set of security features to protect
the computer and data from unauthorized access.
Passwords—Prevents unauthorized access to information
stored on the computer or network.
Drive security—Prevents starting the computer from the
diskette drive and writing information to the diskette drive.
Device disabling—Prevents unauthorized data transfer over
fax/modems, serial ports, parallel ports, and infrared ports.
Passwords are set within Windows or in Computer Setup. The
drive and device security options are set in Computer Setup. (See
Chapter 14, “Security Features,” and Chapter 16, “Computer
Setup and Diagnostics Utilities.”)
