Changing the Drive Boot Order When the computer is turned on, it searches for a drive to start (boot) from in a particular order. The default order is the first bootable CD-ROM, the first bootable diskette, then the first bootable hard drive. A bootable drive contains files needed by the computer to start and operate properly. The bootable drive can be in the computer or, when the computer is docked, in the optional ArmadaStation or Armada MiniStation EX. Boot Management in Computer Setup provides a way to change the default boot order. To view or change Boot Management settings, turn on or restart the computer and press F10 when the cursor appears near the upper-right corner of the screen. Select Computer SetupÆSystem FeaturesÆBoot Management. The Properties tab contains an option to disable the diskette boot ability. The MultiBoot tab contains an option to enable MultiBoot and to specify the order the computer will follow when searching for a bootable drive. When MultiBoot is enabled, the default boot order is: First Computer MultiBay Second Computer hard drive bay Third Left bay in ArmadaStation or Armada MiniStation EX Last Right bay in ArmadaStation To change the MultiBoot order, move the bay label up or down in the list. When the computer searches for a bootable drive, it will consider only the first drive of the same type. For example, the computer will not start from a bootable hard drive if a nonbootable hard drive precedes it in the boot order. IMPORTANT: Be aware that if you change the boot order, you also change the logical drive designations. For example, if you boot from a hard drive in the expansion base, it becomes drive C, and the computer hard drive becomes drive D. If you boot from a diskette drive in the expansion base, it becomes drive A, and the computer diskette drive becomes drive B. 6-18 Working with Removable Drives
