Solving Infrared Problems Continued Problem Possible Cause Solution Cannot transmit data A device was moved. Do not move either (continued) device during data transmission. Direct sunlight, fluorescent light, or flashing incandescent light is close to the infrared connections. Remove the interfering light source(s). Another wireless device is interfering. Keep other infrared and audio remote-control devices, such as wireless headphones, away from the infrared connection. The infrared lens is dirty. Clean the lens with a lintfree cloth. Solving Keyboard and Numeric Keypad Problems Problem Embedded numeric keypad does not work. External keyboard does not work. Keyboard and pointing device are locked. Probable Cause Solution Num Lock function is not enabled. Press Fn+NumLk to enable the embedded numeric keypad (the num lock light turns on). Keyboard may not be securely connected or may be connected to the wrong external connector. Ensure that the external keyboard is securely connected to the external keyboard/mouse connector. You initiated QuickLock. Enter your power-on password to exit QuickLock. NOTE: If num lock is on, hold down the Fn key to type a non-numeric password; press Fn+Shift for uppercase. 17-12 Troubleshooting
